American Dream Meadowlands is a retail and entertainment complex under construction in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The American Dream Meadowlands project will contain over 500 stores and will also include both North America’s largest indoor amusement park and largest indoor water park.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support to conduct engineering analysis to evaluate the required geotechnical and structural parameters for the micro-pile to achieve the required axial and tension resistance capacity. JZN worked closely with the foundations contractor to provide a cost-effective solution taking into account the soil conditions at the site. JZN also provided a load test analysis. Additionally, JZN provided consulting services to the project team to resolve issues regarding existing pile and foundation elements located within the footprint of proposed new foundation elements.

The project is located at the intersection of Clinton Street and 12th Street in the City of Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey.
The project was to design and construct a temporary frozen soil shoring wall for the approximately 60,000 square foot Hoboken Gas Works remediation site.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support for the analysis of a frozen soil wall to allow for the excavation of a contaminated site undergoing environmental remediation. JZN coordinated with other contractors to address environmental concerns and establish an excavation sequence that minimized the proliferation of contaminants.
The site is now the location of the Jordan residential building.

The Spectra Energy pipeline consisted of an interstate energy infrastructure project.
JZN Engineering provided value engineering for a portion of the pipeline requiring support of excavation in Buchanan, New York.
JZN Engineering conducted a geotechnical investigation and provided engineering services to assess the subsurface soil conditions and provide recommendations for Support of Excavation and earthwork specifications. JZN provided rock contour plans and profiles and provided rock removal quantity estimates for the contractor. Due to project requirements, shallow bedrock, and sensitive organic deposits, JZN worked closely with the contractor to provide a cost effective and feasible SOE system that would satisfy the stringent project requirements. The SOE system consisted of a sheetpile wall extending to top of bedrock with a multi stage and multi tier waler and brace system. Due to highly variable rock conditions, JZN provided real time analysis of the sheetpile wall to determine if changes and alterations were required to the design.

The project is located at 76 11th Avenue in the Borough of Manhattan, City & State of New York.
The project is approximately 895,000 square feet and within the path of the Highline. The project consists of 25 and 34-story towers. The mixed-use development includes a 137-room luxury hotel, 247 private condominiums, and 90,000 square feet of retail space. The proposed development includes the construction of a full basement and the support of the existing Highline structure during the project excavation process.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support for design of drilled caisson details, load test plans, and SOE soldier pile connection details. Drilled caissons, including specialty connections and details, were coordinated between JZN Engineering and the steel manufacturers. Load test frames were designed with ultra high loads of over 1,000 tons. JZN also provided design and on-site supervision of specialty load test monitoring equipment including inclinometers during lateral load tests and strain gauges during uplift load tests.

The project is a 79-story condominium building that will feature 781 units, 15,000 square feet of retail space, and 14,000 square feet of public space. The proposed development includes the construction of a full basement.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support for design of the main building support of excavation. Due to shallow groundwater and multiple high rise buildings located on adjacent lots, JZN was required to provide a cost effective support of excavation solution that would not lower the groundwater table on adjacent lots. JZN designed a drilled soldier pile and lagging system that was supplemented with an offsite temporary sheetpile wall. JZN also designed the dewatering system to be used and provided finite element modeling to show the effects of the ground water over varying distances.

The project is located at 170 Erie Street in the City of Jersey City, New Jersey. The proposed development includes the construction of a nine-story mixed-use building that will feature a triple-stack parking system retail space, office space, and 59 residential units.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support for design of limited support of excavation sets. The support of excavation provided was limited to that of the existing public light pole, traffic lights, utility poles around the site, and a portion of the sidewalk. In total, JZN provided designs for three partial support of excavation systems to allow the safe excavation and construction of the proposed building foundations. The support of excavations were designed to retain excavation depths ranging between approximately 10 feet and 14 feet. The support of excavation designs featured a combination of soil slopes and braced soldier pile with lagging wall systems. The bracing system consisted of walers, rakers and deadman for support. Another support of excavation system consisted of tension L-brackets connected to the existing pole and a reinforced concrete deadman for the support of the existing pole.

The support of excavation provided was limited to that of the proposed building’s core elevator pit. JZN provided designs for the temporary system to allow for safe excavation to a depth of approximately 10 feet in order to construct the proposed elevator pile caps. In addition to conducting a subsurface investigation, construction quality control and special inspection services, as well as vibration monitoring, during pile drilling activities, JZN provided contractor support for a support of excavation system (SOE) to allow for the safe construction of the elevator pit adjacent to a neighboring building. The SOE allowed for safe excavation to a depth of approximately 12 feet. The SOE design featured a secant pile wall system to permit watertight excavation so as to avoid the undermining of the neighboring foundation.

The project is located at 1231 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in the Township of North Bergen, New Jersey. The proposed development includes the construction of a three-story multi-use building that will include a community center, library, computer lab, and a basement level.
JZN Engineering provided contractor support for the design of a limited support of excavation (SOE) system to allow for the safe construction of the proposed foundations. The support of excavation provided by JZN Engineering allowed for safe excavation to a depth of up to 16 feet. The design featured a combination of soil slopes and a soldier pile and lagging wall system. Some of the wall systems were installed via driven method while other were installed via drilled method. The drilled piles included the construction of rock sockets due to relatively shallow rock conditions within some portions of the proposed development.

The project included the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a 17-story building to be located at 885 Washington Boulevard, in the City of Stamford, Connecticut. The development includes a three-story parking garage structure with the lowest level bellow ground, multiple residential units from the third floor up, and amenities on the 17th floor.
JZN conducted the review of a third party preliminary geotechnical investigation and provided supplemental geotechnical investigation services to confirm previous findings and obtain information on subsurface soil and groundwater conditions. JZN provided foundation design recommendations for shallow foundations.
JZN prepared a support of excavation (SOE) design to allow the construction of the bellow grade portion of the parking garage structure. The SOE system consisted of drilled soldier piles with lagging. Our office provided support of excavation, subgrade inspection, and vibration monitoring services during construction activities.
