DOUBLETREE BY HILTON HOTEL
ERBIL, IRAQ

The proposed development included the construction of the first DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel to be located at Meter Ring Road in the heart of Erbil, Region of Kurdistan, Iraq.  The development consisted of a multi-story building with two full basement levels.

JZN Engineering served as the geotechnical engineering consultant for the construction of the proposed hotel.  After review of the subsurface information and the proposed superimposed structural loads, JZN performed engineering analyses and provided recommendations for the designed of the proposed building foundation which consisted of a system that combined conventional shallow spread footings and a mat foundation.  Additionally, JZN performed an analysis of the underlying sand deposits’ potential for liquefaction.  Furthermore, JZN provided recommendations for site preparation and earthwork which included bearing surfaces preparation, backfill considerations, surface water control, and dewatering specifications.

PROPOSED CANOPY BY HILTON HOTEL
CITY OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

The proposed development includes the construction of a Canopy by Hilton Hotel to be located at 328 Marin Boulevard in the City of Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.  The site of the proposed development is bounded by Morgan Street to the north, Marin Boulevard to the west, Steuben Street to the south and two (2) to three (3)-story residential/office buildings to the east.

JZN Engineering provided geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions.  The investigation involved the drilling of soil exploration borings within the proposed building footprint area in order to perform engineering analyses and be able to evaluate and develop recommendations for foundation design, soil management and earthwork specifications.  JZN provided recommendations for a deep foundation design in support of the proposed structure.  JZN delivered multiple design options for the deep foundation system which included driven H-piles, closed ended steel pipe piles and tie-down anchors.  Additionally, JZN conducted a site specific seismic study which involved the performance of a Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) within the site, and engineering analyses in order to obtain site specific design response spectra acceleration values and the seismic design category for the design of the proposed structure.

PROPOSED JERSEY CITY HOTEL
CITY OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

The proposed development included the construction of a multi-story Hotel to be located at the Intersection of the Holland Tunnel outbound Lane and Jersey Avenue in the City of Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.

JZN Engineering provided a preliminary geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions. JZN provided multiple design options for the deep foundation system including driven H-piles, closed ended steel pipe piles and mini-pile foundation system.

WAVE RESORT
CITY OF LONG BRANCH, NEW JERSEY

The development included the construction of the Wave Resort in Pier Village III located in the City of Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey.  The project site is bordered by Ocean Avenue to the east, Morris Avenue to the south, and an existing parking lot to the west.  The hotel will have five stories, 72 hotel units, and will occupy an approximate footprint area of 17,400 square feet.

JZN provided contractor support services consisting of support of excavation (SOE) design.  The SOE system consisted of sheet piles installed around the proposed basement and supported with a tie-back system.  The SOE was designed to support a maximum 19 feet excavation to allow the construction of the basement level of the proposed hotel.

PROPOSED PARK CHATEAU HOTEL
EAST BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY

The project includes the construction of the Park Chateau Hotel with an approximate footprint area of 23,000 square feet.  The hotel will include a cellar level with an approximate footprint area of 5,500 square feet and four additional above ground levels which will provide 108 hotel units.  In addition, the development will include the construction of a parking lot that will provide 345 additional parking spaces.  The new hotel is to be located north of the existing 2.5 story In The Park Chateau Hotel and east of Cranbury Road in the Township of East Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.

JZN provided recommendations for a shallow foundation design in support of the proposed structure.

SOUTH COVE HOTEL
CITY OF BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY

The proposed Hotel is to be located on the northeast corner of the South Cove Commons Development situated off Route 440 at Lefante Way in the City of Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey.  The site of the proposed hotel is currently a stormwater management basing associated with the existing South Cove Commons Development.  The proposed eighth-story hotel will overlook the Bayonne Golf Club to the east and the Hudson River Waterfront to the north.

JZN Engineering provided engineering services consisting of a geotechnical investigation review.  The geotechnical investigation review was conducted in order to perform engineering analyses and develop recommendations for foundation design, soil management and earthwork specifications.  JZN recommendations included the implementation of a shallow foundation system in support of the proposed hotel development.

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION
CITY OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

The project site is located at 325 West Side Avenue in the City of Jersey City, New Jersey.  The proposed development included the demolition of existing structures and the construction of a new two-story office building with a loading dock and no basement.

JZN Engineering planned and conducted a geotechnical investigation to study the subsurface conditions at the site in order to provide recommendations for the proposed building foundation design.  Due to the presence of unsuitable fill material and the potential for liquefaction during a seismic event in the loose sand deposits, JZN recommended a deep foundation system consisting of either driven timber piles or driven closed-ended steel pipe piles to support the proposed foundations.

JZN coordinated a vibration monitoring program and provided construction quality control and special inspection services during the installation of the timber piles.  In addition, JZN performed a pre and post-construction conditions program of the neighboring buildings.
