The project included the remediation and improvements of the Berry Lane Park located at 1000 Garfield Ave. in the City of Jersey City, New Jersey. The site is bounded by industrial warehouses and Communipaw Ave. to the northeast, Woodward St. and residential houses to the southeast, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) tracks to the south and Garfield Ave. to the west.
The proposed site remediation included the overexcavation and disposal of the environmentally impacted soils, the restoration of the resulting excavation and site improvements which included the construction of a maintenance building, press boxes, Coal House Concession/restroom building, lighting towers and a state park.
JZN Engineering provided geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions and provided recommendations for the proposed site improvements, foundation design, Support of Excavation (SOE) design recommendations, soil management and earthwork specifications. The investigation was performed by means of soil exploration borings drilled within the property. JZN Engineering recommended different options for the proposed maintenance building and press boxes including a shallow foundation system following the removal of unsuitable soil materials, and a deep foundation system consisting of timber piles or helical piles if the removal of unsuitable soil was not an option.

The project included the construction of the lowest building floor slab for the property known as Building 28 & 128 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (former U.S. Naval yard). The construction included a new paved parking area with loading docks to be located within the area known as the courtyard within buildings 28 & 128, and the rehabilitation of existing pavements. The project site is bounded by Fifth Street and Market Street to the northeast, Sixth Street to the southeast and Morris Avenue to the southwest.
JZN Engineering provided geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions and provided recommendations for the site improvements, foundation design and construction, soil management and earthwork specifications. The investigation was performed by means of soil exploration borings drilled inside the existing buildings 28 & 128 footprint areas and within the existing buildings 28 & 128 courtyard area.

The project included the construction of a new Emergency Generator Pad to be located at Rikers Island, East Elmhurst, New York. The project site is located within the Rikers Island jail complex situated in the 413-acre Rikers Island in the East River between the Borough of Queens and the Borough of Bronx.
JZN Engineering provided geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions and provided recommendations for the proposed emergency generation pad foundation design and construction, soil management and earthwork specifications. The investigation was performed by means of a soil exploration borings drilled within the proposed pad footprint area.

The proposed project included site improvements at the Hunts Point Site known as AOU-2 located at the intersection of Viele Avenue and Halleck Street in the Borough of Bronx, City and State of New York. The site is bounded by Food Center Drive to the south, Halleck Street to the west, Viele Avenue to the north and an existing parking lot to the east.
JZN Engineering provided geotechnical investigation and engineering services to assess the subsurface soils conditions and provided recommendations for the proposed site improvements, foundation design, Support of Excavation (SOE) design, soil management and earthwork specifications. The investigation was conducted by means of conducting Cone Penetration Tests within the existing property.
The proposed remediation required excavation at the site to remove the environmentally impacted soils to allow for the development of the site. JZN Engineering recommended and design a temporary shoring system consisting of sheet piles to protect the adjacent roadways, parking lots, utilities and existing developments. Additionally, JZN recommended different foundation alternatives to support the proposed buildings which included driven closed ended pile piles, drilled piers, micropiles and rammed aggregate piers.

The Power Activated Carbon System is located within the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission in the Borough of Wanaque, Passaic County, New Jersey.
The proposed system included the construction of two 14 feet diameter PAC Silos with heights of approximately 60 feet each resting on a concrete floor slab to be supported on a deep foundation system.
JZN was retained to design the deep foundation elements in support of the two PAC Silos. The foundation system consisted of micropile elements bearing on rock.
JZN provided construction quality control during the installation of the micropile components including grout sampling and testing. In addition, JZN supervised and analyzed the micropile load test program.

The proposed project included an settlement analysis and remediation for the construction of a waterfront park and playground for the Market Building located at Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. The property is bordered by India Street to the south, Huron Street on the north, and residential buildings to the east.
JZN Engineering evaluated the settlement of the proposed waterfront park/playground area by the construction of a finite element model to analyze the surcharge behavior of the fill materials on to the underlying soft compressible organic deposits. Following the analysis, JZN prepared a subgrade preparation consisting of the overexcavation and disposal of the environmentally impacted soils, and restoring the area using geofabric and lightweight fill material.
JZN recommendation included design parameters for the subgrade preparation for the waterfront park/playground areas. In addition, JZN provided construction quality control during the remediation and construction process of the park/playground area.

The project involved the construction of 28 feet height light poles for the existing parking lot of the Brooklyn Army Terminal located at 58th Street and 1st Avenue in the Borough of Brooklyn, City and State of New York. JZN provided geotechnical investigation services to study the subsurface conditions at the site in order to provide recommendation for the light pole foundations support. Our field exploration services included drilled soil explorations at the proposed light pole construction locations, and geotechnical laboratory testing of representative soil samples.

The site of the Proposed Substation Pad is located within the Bush Terminal Facility in the intersection of 1st Avenue and 43rd Street in the Borough of Brooklyn, City & State of New York. The proposed substation pad was designed to measure 37 feet by 132 feet.
JZN provided geotechnical investigation services to study the subsurface conditions at the site in order to provide recommendation for the Substation Pad foundation. Our filed exploration services included drilled soil explorations within the proposed substation pad footprint area.

The first option included a shallow foundation system consisting of a mat foundation, and the second option included a deep foundation system consisting of micropiles.

The site of the Rockaway Recycling Center is located at 311 West Main Street in the Borough of Rockaway, Morris County, New Jersey.
JZN provided a stormwater management investigation program consisting of four (4) soil profile pit exploration. Multiple soil samples were acquired at each soil profile pit exploration location in order to perform permeability analysis on the existing soils of the site.
JZN provided recommendations that included earthwork, construction considerations, and soil permeability rates for the design and construction of the proposed stormwater basing for the proposed Rockaway Recycling Center.

The site of the Rockland Championship Golf Course Path is located at 300 Route 9W in Congers, New York. The project included the removal of portions of the existing golf course path and the installation of a new golf course path.
JZN Engineering was present on site to observe the path subgrade preparation prior to backfilling to ensure the exposed surface was suitable for backfilling. We also conducted laboratory testing of the soils including moisture density relationships and soils classifications in order to perform in-place density testing during fill placement. Our inspection services included the observation of subgrade preparation, backfill placement and testing, and asphalt testing.

The project site is located at 100 South Street in Morristown, New Jersey. The site is currently occupied by an existing two-story community theater, several wood-frame commercial buildings and associated paved parking lots. The proposed project includes the construction of a new three-story building expansion at the rear of the existing building.
JZN Engineering planned and conducted a geotechnical investigation, and existing foundation investigation to study the subsurface conditions at the site in order to provide recommendations for the proposed theater expansion foundation design. Our field exploration services included drilled soil exploration borings and test pit excavations performed within the proposed expansion footprint.

We proposed a foundation support system consisting of shallow foundations. The project site is located at 325 West Side Avenue in the City of Jersey City, New Jersey. The proposed development included the demolition of existing structures and the construction of a new two-story office building with a loading dock and no basement.
JZN Engineering planned and conducted a geotechnical investigation to study the subsurface conditions at the site in order to provide recommendations for the proposed building foundation design. Due to the presence of unsuitable fill material and the potential for liquefaction during a seismic event in the loose sand deposits, JZN recommended a deep foundation system consisting of either driven timber piles or driven closed-ended steel pipe piles to support the proposed foundations.
JZN coordinated a vibration monitoring program and provided construction quality control and special inspection services during the installation of the timber piles. In addition, JZN performed a pre and post-construction conditions program of the neighboring buildings.
